What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® contains a synthetic form of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that has been used in medicine for decades, and when injected, will stimulate your collagen production, resulting in improved skin volume and elasticity, as well as reduced wrinkles and folds.

Treatment with Sculptra® is non-surgical and can provide a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance lasting up to two years.

How does it work?

When injected into the skin, the Sculptra® PLLA particles stimulate the skin cells to produce new collagen fibres, which gradually replace lost volume and improve skin texture.

+ How many treatments do I need?

Unlike dermal fillers, Sculptra® does not provide immediate results. Instead, it takes a gradual approach with results continuing to improve over several months following your last treatment.

2-3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results, with 1 additional treatment at 6 months after your last treatment, but this can vary.

+ How long do the results last?

Sculptra® injections last for two to three years. Maintenance treatments of Sculptra can be done once a year if desired.

+ How is the treatment done?

Sculptra® treatments start with a consultation with the doctor to see if this is the best opton to acheive your desired results.

If so, numbing cream will be applied for 30-40 mins in advance to allow added treatment comfort.

Next the treatment area will be cleaned followed by injections of Sculptra® using a small needle or cannula. The injections are mixed with a local anaesthetic which further helps with comfort.

After each injection, the doctor will massage the area to distribute the Sculptra® evenly. The whole process usually takes 30-60 minutes, and you can resume normal activities immediately afterwards.

+ Who can have treatment?

Sculptra® is suitable for both women and men who:

  • want to restore the natural fullness to their face
  • want to improve the texture and elasticity of their skin
  • are experiencing signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines
  • have realistic expectations about the results
  • are in good health

+ Who should not have treatment?

Anyone who:

  • has a history of severe allergies or autoimmune disorders
  • pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • currently is feeling unwell (e.g. flu, cold, sinusitis, UTI)
  • is under 18 years of age

+ After Treatment and Recovery

Clients should:

  • avoid putting pressure on the treated area for the first 1-2 days
  • avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30
  • avoid strenuous exercise and facial treatments for the first few days
  • apply gentle massage of the treated area 5 times a day for 5 mins for the first few days to ensure that the product is distributed evenly.
  • ice can also be applied for comfort if desired
  • avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours
  • you can return to work and normal activites by the following day in most cases
